Libby’s believes the table is the heart of the home. Unfortunately, many families are struggling to put food on the table, and has even created GetBacktotheTable.com as a resource with recipes, nutrition information, tips on how to make mealtime really into family time and strengthen your family - and their is even a portion of their site written by a Dad, for Dads. Awesome.

Libby's is currently running a campaign in support of Habitat for Humanity and in partnership with Fresh Market. To help families around the US, Libby’s is partnering with local Habitat for Humanity chapters to give families a place to enjoy a meal together and everything they need to make it happen.

Habitat for Humanity Salt Lake City will complete 3 new/refurbished homes for less fortunate families this year. To help these families get back to the table, Libby's will provide each of the families that move into these homes with a pantry stocked with Libby's products that they can use to make simple, easy meals for their family. In addition they will provide a dining table for 6 so they can enjoy their meals together, as well as place settings for at least 6 family members.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Libby's is encouraging shoppers to stop by their local Fresh Market between now and this Saturday, October 22 and to donate non-perishable items to help Habitat for Humanity families make those family mealtimes a reality.

THE SCOOP

Having been a food blogger for several years I have been exceedingly grateful that putting food on the table for my family is something I am even able to do. And honestly, not only in a manner where I can share some of the meals our family enjoys on my blog, but where I even have the ability to make things that are purely for our enjoyment.

I am very aware that this is not the case for far, far too many families who are most likely even some of my neighbors and friends. We know that we are lucky in many, many ways.

Because of this I am always trying to find ways to help where we can and in the best possible manner that our little family can afford. Just like everyone else right now, we are on a budget and money is tight. In fact, one of the main reasons I love to cook from scratch is because it is more affordable to have a few staple ingredients that can be turned in to meals.

We have SO much to be grateful for and at times even more than we realize! When I received this information about Libby's campaign and work with Habitat for Humanity, I knew this would be a message I would have to share. Participation in this campaign is something that is on the scale that in reality we can actually do something tangible to help. I'm not in a position to go camp in a park to help support a cause, or go on a humanitarian excursion and head to other countries and do something amazing, or even realistically for me be able to show up to build a house that may only be a few miles from my own. Often, to be honest, this frustrates me because there is so much I would like to do, and know that right now, my focus is on taking care of my kids. But it just once again reminds me how grateful I am to be able to do that!

I may not be able to do those things, and donating a few cans of food may not seem like a lot, but I can take a portion of my grocery budget that may have gone to some extra ingredients for a post about something that in all likelihood I didn't need to eat and use it more wisely and effectively to help others in need. It may not seem like a lot... but if you think about just how basic and fundamental that ability to feed our families is... well, this campaign takes on all new proportions.

Often, these type of campaigns are the only ones I really participate in because they are doable for our small and complicated family. That is why I'm looking forward to heading over to Fresh Market this week with my boys and letting them help pick out a few items to put in the donation area. I win because we get to do something good and teach my kids an incredibly valuable lesson in a very tangible way and in their actual community. I hope that many others will do the same this week and support this campaign in our community.

My top shelf of my freezer is full of pumpkin treats. I love fall and I love the combination of pumpkin and spices. Could there really be anything better than pumpkin? I’m thinking no.

Sometimes there is only so much pumpkin and spices you can have. So when I came across these pumpkin caramel cookies, I was sold.

And so was the family.I made the cookies for an event, but they almost didn’t make it because the family kept eating them. But it isn’t just the cookie that is good. The frosting is to die for. Really, I’ve got to come up with another recipe with that frosting.
