Recently, Krista, Carrian and I, along with several other local bloggers, were lucky enough to attend the Intro to Fine Chocolate class offered at Tony Caputo's Food Market & Deli in Salt Lake City. As a bonafide chocolate lover this class has been on my wish list of outings for at least the past two years (basically ever since I found out about it!). Life just continued to conspire to keep me away until last week's event.
Matt Caputo was our educator for the evening and he really knows his stuff! Before the class I knew that I knew enough about chocolate to know that I really didn't know very much at all... **crickets chirping** - that made no sense I know. Basically, I knew that I needed to learn. With the amounts of chocolate that I use I want to know that what I'm buying is actually chocolate and going to taste the way I expect it should.
From Caputo's site:
The Caputo's culture promotes a love for all things food: cooking, gathering, sharing, and learning. We've taken our wealth of knowledge and our passion for food to another level with our cooking and tasting classes. Our in-house educators offer a vibrant atmosphere to learn regional recipes and traditions to implement into any home kitchen.
Tasting classes are taught by award winning educator, Matt Caputo. Guests are given an in-depth look into the world of fine cheese, charcuterie, and chocolate.
Our enthusiasm for food is exemplified in our exciting, thorough classes.Need proof that Caputo's not only talks the talk, but walks the walk in their efforts? Caputo's is also now writing some wonderful, informative posts on their new blog, including an amazing new info graphic they've created all about The Fine Chocolate Experience. (They were even kind enough to provide the html to embed this amazing piece of work on your own site!)
The class was not only incredibly well done, but very informative and FUN! I can't wait to try some of their other classes!

In addition to teaching classes, Tony Caputo's Market & Deli has been a wonderful part of the downtown Salt Lake City culture for many, many years - in fact, back in my days of working at a law firm downtown Caputo's was my favorite place to go grab lunch. Not only could I get a seriously killer sandwich, but they also offer salads and other menu items at each location. My personal favorite are their pasta salads that are a meal all by themselves and taste better than any pasta salad you've ever had in your life. It has been a joy to watch Caputo's continue to grow, expand and progress over the last several years especially and I can't wait to see what else they do in the future!
They not only have a market with all the best, handpicked ingredients you could want for your pantry, but also a deli counter where you can buy fine cheeses (including a CHEESE CAVE!) and meats, a section of amazing vinegars and oils, a huge chocolate selection and specialty bakery items and recently they have added a butcher counter where you can pick up the finest meats available locally. You can check out their market and even shop online!
If all that still isn't enough to convince you that browsing Caputo's website or visiting one of their locations in person isn't incentive enough, allow me to share with you a few more of my favorite pics from my latest visit to the store.
As part of our visit to Caputo's chocolate class they have also offered our reader's a special gift you can get with your chocolate order from their website. Their prices on chocolate are extremely competitive and include detailed descriptions of each item to help you make your selection.
